Connue depuis l’antiquité, la menthe poivrée est un croisement entre la menthe aquatique et la menthe verte. Décrite pour la première fois en angleterre en 1696 par le botaniste john ray, la menthe poivrée acquit alors une grande réputation en herboristerie. En aromathérapie, son huile essentielle est traditionnellement utilisée contre les troubles digestifs et son effet froid cutané.
